TTT: Book Boyfriends

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

This week's topic for Top Ten Tuesday is perfect. Because, really? You can't be a reader and not be in a fictional relationship with a fictional character. It's impossible, really. You get to know these characters so well. So, so well; inside and out. It may happen slowly or it may hit you when you get into Chapter One.

But it happens: you're in love.

Now, if only one or two (or all) of these guys were real! How amazing of a place this planet of ours would be! Sigh. Until then? I guess our crushes stay as fictional as the boys themselves. Thanks for that reminder, The Broke and the Bookish

1. Matthew Clairmont from The All Souls Trilogy - Because. Well. If I haven't raved enough about him yet. Let's recap: ancient vampire, dashingly handsome, brilliant, romantic, and he knows all sorts of the historical folk I study. I'd be the perfect Diana to his Matthew.

2. Jayce Wayland from The Mortal Instruments Series - Snarky, sarcastic, and adventurous to the extreme. It's hard not to fall in love with Jayce from the beginning of the story. What I particularly love about Jayce (minus his quick-wit and laugh-out-loud lines) is that while he's protective of Clary, he gets that she's a tough girl and doesn't get in her way when she wants to do something.

3. Four from Divergent - I haven't read Insurgent yet, so don't let me know anything that might make me not feel this way later! But, I love Four. I think he's a brilliantly constructed character and I just cannot wait to read more about him.

4. Leo Valdez from The Heros of Olympus Series - Are you guys seeing a pattern here? With the wise-cracking, sarcastic boys? Because I am. I adore Leo. He's brilliant, absolutely loyal to his friends, and downright hilarious. It's quite the trifecta for me.

5. Marco from The Night Circus - Marco is dashing. I really just find such elegance in everything he does and says. It took a little while for him to grow on me, but now? There's part of me that still can't let go to him and all that he did at the circus.

6. Sean Kendrick from The Scorpio Races - Dark and broody? I do love Sean quite a bit because of how quiet he is. He's such a solid character - his priorities are set, he knows what he wants. But he's missing something too, and watching him change over the course of the novel was amazing.

7. Richard Cypher from The Sword of Truth Series - Richard is pretty much perfect. I mean, yeah he has some issues, but he's such a strong and dependable person that does everything in his power to make the right decision (which half the time looks like the right one but turns out to be oh-so-wrong) and do right by/for those he loves. There's not much more you can ask for.

8. Kvothe from The Kingkiller Chronicle - Kvothe is an interesting character to grow to love because you know him at two stages in his life: young and wide-eyed and full of adventure and old  and kinda surly and a little jaded. But, he grows on you and you find yourself wanting more and more from him. He's fascinating.

9. George Weasley from Harry Potter - Like I said, I love the silly, smart-alecky boys. I can't help it. And George? Well, George is the king of the goof-ball boys.

10.  Mendanbar from The Enchanted Forest Chronicles - One of my first literary crushes could totally not be left out of this list. I just adore him and this book. Who wouldn't fall in love with the King of the Enchanted Forest?

BONUS. Mr. Darcy from Pride & Prejudice - because? Mr. Darcy is my book boyfriend. The end.

So, you guys? Let's talk, okay? I know you have them! Don't be shy! Don't try to deny this! Who are your fictional boyfriends? Tell me all about them! Who should I add to my list?
