HodgePodge: Project Procrastination

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

You! Go link up! Play along!

Since I'm trying to get back into thesis-writing pretty hard-core today, HodgePodge is a perfect way to get a moment to blog. For those keeping score: I'm back in Budapest. My pockets are much lighter, but my heart, soul, and camera are quite full. It was an amazing trip, which I am trying to figure out how the heck I'm going to be able to blog it all! Seriously.

So, to procrastinate from both thesis and blogging I present.....

1. What are you plans for Easter?

Sadly they will probably only include writing my thesis. I hope to get out for a run though (if the weather cooperates), to enjoy the spring and everything that comes with Easter. Oh and gorge on candy. Because. I. Can.

2. Besides Jesus, who would you like the meet from the Bible? Why?

I was wavering on this one. Mary Magdalene? Peter?
Then I realized: Judas.

Not your typical answer, right?
But really, I'd like to hear his side of the story.
He's been the scapegoat for so long,
so recognized as the evil figure of the Bible,
so many phrases and superstitions rose up out of his bad name.
But was he a bad guy? Or just a guy with a bad rep?

3. One modern convenience that you didn't have as a child that was easy to live without?

The internet.
God, it's so nice, so convenient.
I'm so glad to have it,
to keep up with some friends I would have lost,
to make new friends (like you!),
to get answers in a snap.

But really?
Life pre-internet? So much easier.
Handwritten letters,
news on paper and on TV only,
etc, etc, etc.

I guess I didn't miss it,
because I didn't know it.

But now people cannot get off of it.
I hate when I'm at dinner and a friend checks their email
(though, i've been known to do that on occasion
when on vacation,
but mostly to alert my parents that yes, i am still alive and safe
and I feel bad every.single.time. i do it.)

4. More Left or Right Brained?

According to the Quiz Joyce posted
I am:
51% Left Brained
49% Right Brained
I like to think that means I am using both sides to their greatest capacity. But, it makes sense to me. I am an equal split in interests - Medieval History MA with plans to go to Med School? How else would that be possible?

5. Something you intended to do today, but didn't? Why?

It's too early in the day to fully answer that question,
but if I have to look into the future,
I think either finishing this paper or going for a run won't happen,
though I would love for both of them to.

6. Cadbury Cream Eggs or Reeses Peanyt Butter?

Reeses.
All the way.

Cadbury Cream eggs are gross.
(Though I did buy some Cadbury Caramel eggs in Heathrow yesterday;
I do love those)

7. Favorite cartoon character as a kid?

Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers
I loved Chip & Dale
and I don't think I can separate them out
to tell you who I liked better ;)

8. Random Thought?

I'm seriously trying to figure out how to get back to London/Cambridge.
I LOVED it there. So. Much.

oh,
and that thesis?
Due in about a month and 3 days.
EEEEEE!

A Little Bit of Me

Sunday, January 16, 2011

For any of you new here, hello!
Since I'm down to my last paper (!!!),
I'm just doing a quick little fill in thing
(that I found over on Candace's Blog),
so you can know a little more random
about yours truly :)
Happy Weekend to all!

I am... a fiercely loyal to my friends and family.
I want... to be home to play in the snow.
I have... the greatest family in the world.
I wish... it was warm enough to wear flip flops.
I hate... the word hate. Or that people are still smoking on my hall in the dorm. It's a non-smoking dorm. Having my room smell like smoke is so not my preference.
I fear... needles.
I hear... the sweet sounds of jazz coming from my Napster radio.
I search... google for the answers to everything.
I wonder... when I will get around to starting my thesis.
I regret... very little.
I love... my friends and family more than anything.
I ache... nowhere; clearly I need to work out more.
I always... say please and thank you. Manners are important things to teach your children.
I usually... am optimistic and give people the benefit of the doubt. Yes, this ends up hurting me from time to time.
I am NOT... going to let school rule my life this semester. There will be time for me in there too.
I dance... randomly. You can find me having frequent dance-it-out moments (yes, like in Grey's, but me and my roomies have done this since before Grey's)
I sing... to myself all the time. Move over Taylor Swift!
I never... say never. It always comes back to bite you in the butt.
I rarely... make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I prefer only the PB.
I cry... when I'm really, really angry.
I am not always... punctual; but I really, really try.
I lose... my mind on a regular basis.
I'm confused... by some people in this world.
I need... to get back to a regular sleeping schedule.
I should... get back to my paper now. Drat.

What are you?

Also, I think I may start "Just Another Music Monday" soon,
the first week or so may be just me, as I try to figure out the McLinky thingy.

Also, keep your eyes peeled - Sam, Neely, and I
have a fun surprise coming soon that I know you will all love!

if you say LOL.

How's that for a diet?
:)

Sunday Funday & Giveaway Reminder

Sunday, March 28, 2010

*** re-re-reminder! enter my giveaway before it's too late! studies show that 9 out of 10 people that don't enter today will be sad, sad, sad! experts have said that people entering my giveaway [and thus, making me smile] will grant me extra points on my Latin exam tomorrow! hurry! while you still can!***

So, this week I thought, i need a break from my exams. I study hard, so why not? MannLand5 always hosts a weekly getting to know you (welcome to new people, btw! grab a cup of coffee, let's get to know each other!), and it's another great quick and to the point blogging idea!

1. Why did you start blogging?
Originally, just because I like writing;
Then, to talk about my to-become-a-doctor-process
Then, that got interrupted by my
Now grad school adventure to Budapest

2. Who's the one blog friend that you would want to meet most in "real life"?
There are too many of you to answer this at one!
Sam @ Life is Beautiful & New England Girl
- because they know what it means to have NE pride!
Joyce @ This Side of the Pond & Selma @ Crazy Little World of Mine
- because they know the ins & outs of life outside the US!
Katie @ Goodbye Animosity & Teresa @ TeresaBug
-because I think I just get how they think; good conversations to be had!
Can't you just see how good I am at decisions?

3. Why are you always concerned with losing that "extra 10 pounds" when chances are your husband/boyfriend/friends tell you that you look fine just the way you are?
For me it's not the weight;
For me it's not the size jeans I wear today, last year, or next month;
It's the lifestyle associated with those numbers that matters;
When I'm not active, I get depressed;
When I'm not active, there's something wrong.
Fencing is my sanity, my escape;
See? It's not the 10 lbs, it's so much more.

4. What's the one thing you wish guys could understand about you?
I don't interrupt people because I'm rude,
I interrupt because I have the memory of a goldfish,
and if i don't tell you rightthisverysecond i'll forget it.

5. Tattoos?
Nope, sorry.

6. What was the best year of your life and why?
2003-2004
First year of college;
First year of North Carolina;
Great friends, great fencing, great times.
Though, to quote Mr. J. Mayer
"I like to think the best part of me
is still hiding up my sleeve."

7. Name three things you would do if you were a man for one day.
pee. standing. up.
have hours long discussions about sports
(which i do now, but no one would look at me funny
over how passionate and involved i get)
talk about cars
(see reason above re: sports)

8.What's your alcoholic drink of choice that usually raises a few eyebrows?
i'm not that much of a drinker;
but when out for cocktails with friends
i can sip some amaretto sours,
but the one that raises eyebrows?
jack & coke.
it's a strong drink for a not-so-often drinker
but when made right, it can taste so good
with a nice steak dinner!

5 X 5

Sunday, February 28, 2010

I woke up today (late, as usual on the weekends, the alarm went off and my body cringed and denied that one could set an alarm on the weekend) and freaked out at the amount of work I have still to do this weekend. And I really wanted to post something too, but I was afraid that any time given to my blog would be too much time away from the mountain of schoolwork I have (as, yes, it does take me too much time to cleverly weave my words). But then, while eating my breakfast and reading over some new posts this morning I found out I had been tagged in this fun little game by my fellow New England native Sam, from Life is Beautiful. (ps. you really ought to check out her blog!) It's sort, it's sweet, and it will let me write here and write the 3.5 other papers on the docket for today (yes, you did read that number of papers right).
