Baby Shower Help!

Monday, April 12, 2010

Okay guys, I need your help!

I'm going to/helping throw [kinda-sorta-maybe-a-little] a baby-shower this Sunday, for a friend of mine who's 23 and having a little boy in early June. His name's Issac Perry and so far Momma and Baby are doing just fine. However, this is my first friend-with-child and therefore my first baby shower.

What I need from you guys (because, seriously, you're all my closest-to-having-babies people I know, and besides you guys rock!) are baby shower games that:

a) aren't gross (yes, i've heard of the guess what the brown gooey stuff in the diaper is - and no, we're not going to be playing anything like that. thankyouverymuch)
b) are suitable for playing with a soon-t0-be young single mom
c) are fun and interesting, but not dumb and dumber
d) don't involve too too much pre-planning

Thanks all! I'll write a little more about my time home so far soon, promise!

  1. I threw a shower for my best friend not too long ago and we played twoish games.
First game: Guess the circumference of the pregnant lady. We measured her, it worked really well. Plus it was low-maintenance.
Second game: We put a bunch of hershey kisses in one of those giant bank/bottle things. Then we had people guess how many kisses.
Oh the thirdish (sorta game) was that we had the momma-to-be pick the prettiest wrapped gift. That person got a prize too.
For prizes we just gave candles. Except for the hershey kiss in bottle game, that was their prize.

    Good luck throwing the shower!

  2. 1. One that is fun is called something like 'never say baby'...everyone gets a piece of yarn/string whatever with a baby safety pin on it (or a regular pin is fine too)...tell everyone at the beginning that whenever someone says the word "baby" during the shower, any woman who calls it out gets a pin from the other woman who stated the word. At the end of the baby shower, the woman with the most pins wins a prize.

Easy and doesn't require much planning.

    2. Another fun one is name that tune...it does require some planning but...

make a mix cd of songs that have baby or babe in the title...15 songs is good-burn to a cd

At the party give everyone pen and paper and play part of each song (about 5 sec) and guests need to write the title and artist. The guest with the most correct wins (itunes card is a good prize for this one) You could even give everyone a copy of the mix cd if you're feeling ambitious.

    3. The tray game...kind of like what you played at birthday parties as a kid. Put about 20 small baby items on a tray. Let everyone have a quick look then cover/remove and guests try to remember everything on the tray.

  3. I haven't thrown a shower personally, but I think guessing the exact day, weight, and time is kinda fun! Then the ribbon to see how big momma is!

  4. We recently played this one for a co-worker...Pin the Binky (Pacifier) on the Baby. Exactly like Pin the Tail on the Donkey, only with a baby poster instead of the donkey. It was fun!
