Is It Summertime Yet?

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

I know I thought last summer was my last chance at spending all day, every day outside in the clean air and sunshine. I signed on to work at a summer camp in the middle-of-nowhere New Hampshire thinking it was a one summer only sort of deal.

That seems to be not quite the case!

I'm going back to camp this summer and I CANNOT wait.

Here's a little taste of why:

A few facts about me at summer camp:

- my name is "Bean" (From Ender's Shadow)
- i rock as many *Nsync & BSB tshirts as possible
- i get sad when i shower because it means i am washing off my tan
- taking a trip to Dunkies is the highlight of some days
- i dont have a use for airconditioning
- i windsurf at least once a week
- i get cranky campers up at 5am for sunrise canoes
- the most important daily decisions include what colors to put in a friendship bracelet (and what pattern to try out)
- i sing crazy songs at the top of my lungs before every meal
- i get to spend all day, every day with some of the craziest, most awesome people ever
AND
- i get to make a difference in a lot of kids lives - the last day of a session when i get a hug and a little girl says "Beans! I'm going to miss you SO much! You're the best counselor EVER! here have my favorite sillyband!" is the best thing to ever happen to me. every. single. time.

Oh. And I missed my "blogaversary!"
Happy 2 years of blogging to me!

Back, Finally!

Wow, summer has been such a whirl-wind for me this year. It's been high-octane, never-stopping, and I have loved every.single.minute. of it.

No joke.

Again, I'm sorry for disappearing from the real-world/bloggingsphere for the summer. It's not that I didn't want to document all my craziness, I just simply couldn't.

It has possibly been the best summer of my life in many years. I made some amazing friends, that I'm sure will last me throughout my life time. And I met some awesome people that, though they may get lost along the years, I am glad to have had the opportunity to know. I believe wholeheartedly that people come and go in your life, but they teach you things and help you grow. Their purpose may not be to be with you forever, but their purpose is no less great in the whole of your life.

And the memories - oh goodness, the memories! I dressed up as a Knight and a Pirate, took a group of kids to my old fencing salle, helped with a 4th of July party, went on 2 (!) Sunrise Canoes, used the camp name of "Bean" (from the Ender's Shadow series), took a trip to Canobie Lake Park, Made a bajillion friendship bracelets, and so much more.

It was amazing, intense, and I really hope that perhaps next year I can do it again!

Here I will leave you with some more pictures of my summer!

The next blog will be a recap of the 3 (yes, THREE) weddings I attended this summer (I was in 2 and just attended one). See, I told you I had the craziest busiest summer!

Camp Life

Hey Everyone!
Camp has been amazing so far - I'm really loving being here and all the girls and the people that I'm working with! It's been quite the life experience; complete with stressors and adventures and everything in between.

However, it eats up every single minute of every single day. But it's worth it.

I've got to get going - however, I will leave you with a few photos:

Yep, that's me with a hawk :)

Hey there all!

It's been a crazy few weeks here at camp.

But let's see what I've been up to:

I'll try for a real post soon, kay?

I Can Taste The S'Mores Already!

I’ve been a bad blogger. Really.

Sorry about that.

It’s just that, nothing really interesting has been going on over here. And before you reply with “But Courtney, you live in Budapest!” Let me just plug the fact that the past month has seen most of my friends slaving away over their theses, which are now mostly all turned in. This means little time for doing things with friends. Thank God, they’ve all been neurotic for the past few weeks, and it’s nice to see them all just relax again!

So, while they’ve been slaving away, what have I been up to?

Well, I found out that I got a job for the summer! I’ll be a councilor at a girl scout summer camp for eight weeks! I am beyond excited about this! I cannot wait to be dressed down in t-shirts, shorts, tevas, and bug spray for the summer! Making campfires, roasting s’mores, singing silly and sappy camp songs, eating pb&j’s and other assorted camp foods -and GIRL SCOUT COOKIES all summer long! It’s going to be an amazing summer and I seriously cannot wait for it to get here! The staff is international, which is really cool - and there is even one girl from Hungary! I met her a week or so ago when she was in town for her work visa - and she is awesome! I may go visit her next week where she lives to hang out some more.

Tomorrow I am taking a boat trip that the dorm organized to a town called Visegrád. I’m super excited about this, as I haven’t been there yet and it’s supposed to be a beautiful city. Plus, 3 hours each way on a boat? Awesome! So, I’m sure I’ll have plenty to write tomorrow night!
